My animation has been rather successful for me. However I believe that I can do much better if I had more time to explore around the web to learn about new creative things and effects that can be added into my animation. I was hoping to include a effect called smoke to make the animation more into reality. To create the reality of the conveyer belt spoiling and causing the cargo boxes to move faster between transitions, eventually causing Stanley to be unable to cope with the stress. I would use the smoke effect to be done around the robot itself to show that it uses a lot of energy and strength to lift the cargo boxes. And also, it also can show emotions about the robot, for eg. When the robot is sad, it may blow out smoke and making very sad and down.
Also, I would try to include the movements done by robots, eg. Having lag times between each joint and movement. Creating such movements will provide a more realistic animation and a better movie and video experience.
I've learned that the 12 Principles of Animation are very important as it provides realistic production and also giving the animation logical laws of physics. They definitely improved my knowledge about animation.
I've applied Squash and Stretch onto the cargo boxes, to show realism in carrying the boxes.
Secondly, I've used Staging at the very last part of the animation. This creates the emotion of sadness as Stanley moves upwards and down to produce a sigh.
Thirdly, I've used lots of Follow Through and Overlapping Action to produce realistic movements. The conveyer belt is moving even when the robot is lifting up the boxes or turning back towards the belt. In the crash scene, many boxes continued to bounce or fly in the air even when some others have stopped moving. This creates that realistic feeling for the viewer.
Fourthly, I've used Arcs to create the movement of thrown objects which in this case, are the cargo boxes. They are shown to fly in an arc motion, and landing with a bounce.
Fifthly, I've made use of the Stanley's head to be give actions that provide the mood of the current scene. This principle of animation that is used is called Staging. This principles shows an action that is done by the character to show the mood of the scene or giving a idea of what is going to happen. It focuses on the relevant things and avoiding unnecessary detail. An example would be, a person starts to frown and clutches his hands.
Lastly, Slow In and Slow Out is applied to the front part of Stanley. When he swings around at a high speed, it swings around to and when it comes to a stop, it does not immediately stop. It gives a small shake before coming a halt.
I've successfully used all these 6 principles of animation into my own animation. However, I believe that I will truly succeed if I'm able to use all of the animation. It will definitely bring my animation and my final production to a whole new level. I could have used more deformers onto the cargo box to show the movement of the conveyer belt, which also gives an idea to the viewer of how fast the conveyer belt is. I could have made the entire animation even better by creating backgrounds of where the Stanley is working and also a few other robots to show the a little background movement rather than everything being focused onto just one robot. I may have created a mini factory store to show the environment of where Stanley is working at. Also, I should have changed many different views of the camera to show a more interesting point of view of the animation.
